It's been three months since Team 7's third member had decided to leave the village in search of power. Naruto woke up to yet another morning feeling as if there was a piece of him missing, because to him not only did he fail to bring Sasuke back he also failed his promise with Sakura-Chan. The "Promise of a Lifetime" that was meant to further his wanting to bring Sasuke back and give Sakura the assurance he felt she needed to know that Naruto was going to do everything in his power to bring back the raven haired ninja, because Naruto well knew that Sakura was in love with Sasuke and even though he had his feelings for Sakura the most important thing to him was her happiness.
Team 7 (or what was left of Team 7 were supposed to me at there usual meeting place for a C rank mission which had been given by the Hokage, this would be the first mission for Naruto in a long time because of the fact that he had suffered extensive injuries from the fight with Sasuke.
"Oi Naruto!!" Sakura said waving her hand at him. She had come to visit him many times in the hospital as Naruto was recovering from is injuries which Naruto enjoyed very much with the exception of the first time he saw her. He couldn't bare to look at her feeling ashamed on going back on that promise because he remember hearing her outside the door.
~~Flashback~~
"Tsunande-sama", Naruto just recently gaining consciousness immediately recognized that voice it was Sakura he also knew the outcome of the battle and knew that Sasuke was not here as promised. "Oh hello Sakura" Tsunade said with a little tip of sadness in her voice.
"Is Sasuke-kun and Naruto in here?" Asked Sakura she sounded happy much different then she sounded before Naruto departed two days earlier. "Yes well Naruto is in here" said Tsunade. "Oh is Sasuke-kun in another room" Sakura asked . "I'm afraid not Tsunade sighed despite all there efforts Naruto and the others were unsuccessful in bringing Sasuke back".
When Naruto heard this he couldn’t help but feel this bitter feeling in his stomach. "Oh Sakura said her voice sounded deeply saddened well I'll go pay Naruto a visit then."
The door opened slowly as Tsunade walked in Sakura behind her Naruto tried to pretend he was sleeping not wanting to confront Sakura at the moment. "Naruto Tsunade said you have a visitor" Naruto pretended to be sleeping but then acted like he was waking up from hearing Tsunade's voice "oba-san" Naruto said. You have a visitor Naruto Sakura came from behind Tsunade holding two flowers in her hand Naruto knew one was meant for him the other was meant for Sasuke
"Hello Naruto Sakura said with a smile on her face how do you feel" Naruto couldn’t help but think that Sakura was no good at hiding her feelings even though the smile on her face did seem genuine he knew from experience that, that smile was fake.
"I'm feeling fine Sakura-chan" Naruto putting in his own fake smile as if showing how it was done with many many years of practice and experience. "Man you look like a wreck Naruto", Sakura said "what happen"?
Tsunade picked up a clipboard and started down the list. "Ruptured lung shattered bone fragments also" Tsunade was stating many other injuries that Naruto has suffered Sakura couldn’t believe how big the list was and the worst part was he really didn’t look that bad.
"How did you manage so many injuries" the pink haired Kunoichi asked surpised!? Naruto didn’t really want to tell her that the man she was in love with did this to him to fulfill his empty ambition so he told her one of Orochimaru's men did this to him and that he couldn’t get to Sasuke because of them.
Tsunade left the room to attend to the other fallen genin. "Well at least you made it back Naruto that’s always a good thing right"? Sakura said with a smile on her face. "Yea" he said unable to hold his shame any longer.
"Well I leave you so you can get some rest ok" and as Sakura was about to leave to room Naruto called out to her "Sakura-chan" she turned around with a curious look on her face, "forgive me Sakura-chan I was not able to bring the man you love back from Orochimaru" Naruto said sadly. "But I made it a promise of a lifetime and I won't go back on my word I will do everything I can in order to get Sasuke-teme back for you" adding his favorite honorific for Sasuke. Sakura smiled at Naruto "I believe you Naruto but now you need to get some rest or you wont get any better you still have a lot of recovering to do" She seemed a little more brighter which meant all the world to Naruto said. She left the room with those words Naruto wanted to make sure she knew that he was not going to fail her.
~~end Flashback~~
Getting out of his daydream like daze Naruto notice that Sakura was already at the bridge waving at him. "Oi sakura-chan" Naruto said in a loud cheerful voice as he ran over to her.
"How have you been feeling Naruto" Sakura said sounding rather cheerful. "Pretty good Sakura-chan especially because I don’t have to be in that stinky ol hospital anymore" replied Naruto a big grin on his face like he usually had.
Then from behind Naruto he heard Yo he immediately knew it was his sensei Kakashi Hatake "how you feeling Naruto" he said with his eyes in a slight curve which Naruto knew meant that he was smiling under his mask
" I'm good" Naruto said knowing him to be the one that found him and knew exactly what happen from the damage he assessed in the area. "Well I'm glad to hear that but unfortunately there will be no mission today because the client withdrew there request saying he was no longer in need of protection so I'm giving you two the rest of the day off enjoy it," and with a poof Kakashi was gone in a flash.
Naruto was a bit disappointed with this because well he hadn’t been on any sort of mission in 3 months an well due to the fact that he was out of commission he was kind of eager to get back in the game so he could start to become towards his goal.
"So Sakura said what are you planning to do now" Naruto shrugged "I'll probably go train for a bit would you like to join me Sakura-chan"? Naruto was almost positive she would turn it down like she always did but did it as a habit. "umm sure why not Naruto."
Ok then see you later Sakur-wait what did you say?!
