Something I find strange is how I have yet to read any fanfics where the protagonist is a 'black' or dark-skinned character. Every character out there is either extremely pale, Caucasian or just tanned. And those characters who do have dark skin fall into the likes of having their skin brought up all the damn time. Even worse, I've seen stories (not Naruto ones, btw) that they even have to place on the title the words 'interracial' just because the one of the characters has to fall in love with someone who isn't of their skin color.
This bugs me. It bugs me greatly.
These dark-skinned characters usually fall into complete ignorance or disuse, as they're usually either a side-character or no one wants to read a story with a person of that skin color. I'm not sure why exactly people don't read these stories, or they completely stop right after they've read the character's description of being dark-skinned and not having green/green/blue/grey/colored eyes. In all honestly I love dark-skinned characters. They're the funny ones, the strong ones, the ones with personalities when the protagonist falls into the usual 'I'm too much of badass to be nice, or caring, or even girly', if not just a rip-off of another character from the series.
Sorry for ranting, though. It's just something that I've noticed. Also, if your character is pretty women will quite possibly not like them, unless stated in the story that the character is actually a plane Jane with blue eyes and dark, dark hair. Beautiful traits if you ask me, but as long as someone puts the protagonist as beautiful it might just not have as many reviews as other characters who are always hating on the person who they're supposed to... oh, I don't know, fall in love with? Since when does fall in love with the person that supposedly annoys you to no end and have huge fights with? A love/hate relationship can only go so far until it becomes unrealistic.
And why is it that if the male OC (friend/squad member/SOMETHING) also like the female but the female doesn't like him back, he always becomes angry? Lashing out at both the girl and everyone who stands in his way? What type of friend is this 'supposed best friend'? Oh, well, I guess.
So sorry that I went on to do this xD I just had to get it out of my system.
Oh, never mind the sibling thing. I just saw what Silverwolf put. Sheesh, I need to pay more attention.
Author's Response: Oh yeah, I was too lazy to get on before, so I just told Silverwolf my response :P
Hey, real quick question. Shadow was wondering if his character could be your character's sibling. Or has he already asked you?
Okay, on to the awesomeness of It's Rather Strange That...... Hahaha. Number 13..... I guess I kinda fall under that, too, huh? And I don't get why so many people like Yaoi. It's just dumb. My opinion, so yes, other people who read this may think differently. Wait, so are my ocs Mary-sues? Crap..... And I kinda have to agree with nkbz about the Naruto cast. And yeah, people can be kinda biased *hangs head in shame*. And no, I do not know the Japanese name. They confuse me! As for 19, it can be real people on tonfa just not longed in because that way if they hurt someone's feelings, then the author isn't mad at them for the review. Even though I do like anonymous reviews better since at least they'd be truthful. And I've always wondered about Tenten....... Sheesh, that's just not fair to her... How about we make it Chocolatemonkeyhead? Tenten Chocolatemonkeyhead. Yeah, that works. *hangs head, sighs, and shakes head at me*. Yeah, shut up! Don't tell her what I'm doing!
Sorry, I just got into a little fight with myself........ There's a guy with a giant needle behind me...... AHHHH.
Sasaui Uchiha is currently unavailable. Please leave a message after the beep. BEEEEEEP!!!!!!!!
Author's Response: Haha, if you noticed, I said in the beginning that I'm eleven ;) I don't know why yaoi is popular, but it just surprises me that it is... Well, I think I kind of explained my view on Mary-Sues to nkbz, and I'm too lazy to repeat everything XP I'll just say that I think there hints of Sues everywhere, which leaves me to think that Sues are unavoidable. My opinion, that's all... Yeah, that is one way of looking at anonymous reviews... Haha, Chocolatemonkeyhead, I like that XD Oh no... Sasaui, where are you?!
These are really good observations. :)
I, also, usually only browse on the most recent page because of the fact that there is a variety of stories there and I'm usually not looking for anything specific. xD
Author's Response: Why, thank you :D Yeah, a lot of people (myself included) constantly browse the Most Recent page, but that leaves a lot of other stories that are sadly looked over :( But I'm glad you liked this! Thanks for taking the time to read and review!
Very interesting observations. You're really smart, you know that?Although I do have to point out that you say that in Point 13 and then in the Author's Note it's 'I'm only eleven'. Nah, it's fine, honey. I'm only messing. Again you did a really nice job on these. ;0) I sure your sister's really proud - I know I am. Well done.
Author's Response: Aww, thanks a lot, Batty! Haha, I knew someone would catch that, I should have figured it would be you ;D I just wanted to mention that Silverwolf edited it, because my grammar is always so icky. Actually, yes, she is proud; many of these were things that she noticed too. Now I know I'm not crazy XD But I'm especially happy that you're proud of me! Thanks a bunch, Batty! You're so awesome!
I liked it, but I have to disagree about Mary-sues
It is definitely avoidable to create mary-sue. Just because some legendary ninja can resurrect, teleport, and destroy entire villages doesn't justify people making OCs that run around as extremely attractive uchiha rip-offs with similar abilities to Hokage's and infinite romance options.
No one is the Naruto cast is a mary-sue, all have clearly defined weaknesses or went through many hardships to get power (Sasuke).
People who create mary-sues try to avoid this by throwing their own weaknesses but end up never suffering the consequences from them. Sure Sasuke can have his whole clan murdered, and what does he do about it? He dedicates his entire life to avenging them and restoring the Uchiha. A mary-sue would use it as a means to be a another annoying angsty OC who can pretend to be a stoic badass.
Author's Response: Well, first off, I'm glad you liked it. I respect what you say about Mary-Sues. I kinda think that there is a certain limit to what is a Mary-Sue and what everyone considers the hated Sue. You can give a bunch of the Naruto people the Mary-Sue test, and I'm sure at least some of them will test out as one. Obviously, OCs need to be worked on to make them likable. But with OC-centric stories, I understand what you mean about watching out for the OCs. In making a main character, though, there is usually some Mary-Sue traits that linger through; that's why I said it was unavoidable. Obviously, it doesn't have to be the hated Sue, but even a sprinkle of Sue-ish behavior or background can make a Mary-Sue, I think. I appreciate what you said though. Thank you very much for your opinion! Thanks fir reading and reviewing!
Ah, this was pretty accurate. Some of it was really amusing, such as Tenten not having a surname. But you're very right about a lot of it.
Good observations. I liked it. Nice job, Sis!
Author's Response: Haha, I'm super glad you liked it! Some of these were just observations, but I'm glad people agree too. Now I know I'm not imagining things... Thank you very much for reading and thanks even more for reviewing!
I apply to a bunch of those. I don't know all of the Japanese versions of Jutsus. Ezra is a Mary Sue [I think.] And I go on the Most Recent Page ALOT!!!!!!! Haha, this was funny, I'm not that offended.
Author's Response: Oh, it's alright. I didn't know the Japanese versions of jutsu either until my sister told me. Yeah but, Ezra's cool. He's not a Mary-Sue because he has such a bad past. Haha, I go on the Most Recent Page way too much XD I'm glad you're not offended, and I'm glad you liked it! Thanks for reading and reviewing!
This is interesting, You're definitely right about not being allowed to indent paragraphs, that annoys me sometimes. I also think your right about honest reviews, not that I like meaner ones but they are often given in order to help the author improve their writing.
Author's Response: Oh, I'm glad you liked it! The fact that TONFA for some reason doesn't allow indenting paragraphs annoys me! It's just so unnatural! Yeah, I'm not an actual 'writer', if you want to be technical, but I know that my sister and friends appreciate honesty, just not flames. Thanks for reading and leaving your thoughts!
