Naruto was lost again. It always happened to him, he was always getting lost, and he felt ridiculous. He was a ninja, for crying out loud. He shouldn’t be getting lost so fucking easily. He walked forward, pressing onward, hoping that something would trigger his mind and help him figure out the way home once more. It was pathetic, pathetic enough that he didn’t even want to call out his amphibious companion and ask for help.
Sighing, Naruto finally just gave up. It was getting dark and he’d never find his way now, it didn’t matter, he wasn’t going to be expected home for another couple of days, and he wouldn’t be missed for a week after that. It was all the same to him, hopefully by then, he’d be able to stroll back into Konoha and smile at the old lady Tsunade and give his missions report to Iruka-sensei.
A chance he would have to pass up, probably. Because he was so lost right now, he wasn’t even sure he was still in Fire Country.
It was as he was preparing to find some sleep in the tree he was resting in that he was forced on edge. Chakra, frighteningly familiar chakra invaded his senses and he was forced to stand, searching for the source. It was disturbing how familiar it was, how like it was to his chakra.
He waited, poised and ready to fight as he watched [ihim[/i walk into the small clearing he’d found. He had to steel himself so he didn’t go down to him, wrap his arms around that pale, pale neck and kiss those ever kissable, thin lips.
“Sasuke,” he whispered softly, clenching the tree he was against.
“You know, dobe,” Konoha is a week’s run to the east, directly,” Sasuke murmured, pointing eastward, a smirk upon his handsome face. “And you should really stop getting lost around here. Orochimaru wouldn’t like it too much.”
Naruto didn’t say anything, he just watched Sasuke turn on his heel and move back into the trees, disappearing once more from him.
Tears were in Naruto’s eyes as he turned and leapt away, moving in the direction Sasuke had pointed.
