BOOM! CLANG!
Chakra exploded out the tip of Mitusurugi’s blade, but the force was more than he could handle. Losing his grip, the hilt slipped from his hands, and the katana skittered across the landscape, coming to rest about 20 yards from where the two men stood.
“The force…is too…great…” Mitsurugi panted as he forced the words out.
“Maintain your focus. You must use chakra to both create the explosion, and maintain the grip on your blade.”
“It’s…too…much… I…can’t…” Mitsurugi continued to force the words out as he struggled to regain his composure.
“Too much…” Tsubashi chuckled to himself as he goaded Mitsurugi. “This from the self proclaimed ‘master of swords’; he who can’t be beaten in a clash of blades. Some master you turned out to be.”
“Do not mock me boy. I may not be able to kill you, but you cannot overcome the strength of all my men. I assure you, I will not hesitate…”
“…to have me killed, yes, yes.” Tsubashi finished Mitsurugi’s comment before the sword master could finish it himself.
Mitsurugi lumbered over and collected his sword. Sheathing it, he regained his focus, and began to concentrate again. He could feel the chakra flowing through him, flowing into his blade. He maintained his focus, as the chakra flowed from his feet, into his chest, and into his hands. There he held it, maintaining his focus as the chakra continued to accumulate in his palms. Slowly, he let the chakra flow into his katana, maintaining perfect concentration. As he raised his sword up, it began to glow with the brightness of fire. When it was perfectly level with the ground, Mitsurugi stopped moving it. He spread his feet slowly, and bent his knees. Extending his arms, he readied himself to make the perfect lateral slash.
BOOM! CRACK!
Mitsurugi focused, and held his sword fast, as the pain shot through his hands, and into his arms. He opened his eyes to a surprising sight; Tsubashi stood in front of him, arms outstretched, a massive log between his hands. The log was nearly cut in two by the blade in Mitsurugi’s hands.
“Well,” Tsubashi commented, “you may not have mastered it yet, but it would appear that you’ve got it down well enough.”
“You saw how quickly I was able to master the Burning Blade; this will take no time at all,” Mitsurugi replied.
“Very well then,” Tsubashi replied. “When you are ready, come to me. As you well know, all good skills must be tested and practiced, before they can be effective for battle.”
