The blonde ninja stood awkwardly in the doorway, not sure of what to do. Was this normal? How could she possibly know? She'd never been asked to a boys house before. She almost snorted. A boy's house? Why was she acting like a schoolgirl.
The door opened after a little while, and she was confronted with a formidable looking woman, with short brown hair and an apron on.
"Is...this the Nara household?" the ninja asked, shaking slightly at the knees.
The woman's face broke into a smile.
"You must be Temari!"
"H-hai!" the girl answered, wanting the ground to swallow her for being so shy.
"Come in, come in! Shika-chan is just in the dining room with his father. Why don't you come to the kitchen with me, and I'll make you some green tea."
This woman was hard to say no to, and Temari soon found herself sitting at a low table in the kitchen, while Shikamaru's mother busied herself with supper. The house was small, but homely, and Temari found herself liking it, almost prefering it to her large, empty house in Suna.
"I hear you are the Kazekage's sister. That must be worrying. I worry enough about my husband and son out on missions, let alone worry about my own brother being leader of an entire country!" Shikamaru's mother threw her hands up in the air, "But what can you do, eh? Just be strong I suppose..."
She placed a cup in front of the pretty ninja, and left the room quietly. A clock ticked loudly above the cooker, and Temari wondered how long Shikamaru would be.
"Ah, you're early, how troublesome. I was playing Shogi with my father."
The tall, lean ninja entered the room, lazily pouring himself a cup of refreshing green tea.
He walked over to Temari and bowed slightly.
"I'm glad you came. Let me take you for a walk, I'm sure my mother has been bothering you enough."
Temari pressed a hand to her mouth to stop a giggle, and rose from her seat to follow him. She hated, and loved the effect this lazy Konoha ninja had on her. He made her feel feminine and weak at the knees.
They strolled to the bottom of his garden, and lay back on the grass.
"I often come here to look at the clouds." said Shikamaru, smiling.
Temari sat up and looked down at him. He looked blissfully happy, just staring up at the fluffy white clouds.
"You make me feel different to anyone else." she told him, "I feel like...I'm falling forever. But it's okay, because you're here." she smiled, leaning closer to him.
"I always said I wanted to marry a woman who was neither beautiful, nor ugly. I suppose I wanted to settle for the easy life. But just like my father, I've fallen for the one woman who is as ferocious as my mother."
Temari lay back again, beside him, watching the clouds drift lazily by.
"They're like you..." she murmured.
"Pushed along, moved by the winds. That's you." he replied.
"Will we always be that way?" Temari asked him, turning to face him.
Shikamaru nodded.
"Then that's perfection", she said, smiling at him.
Shikamaru, reminded of his father's words long ago, reached forwards and kissed her.
"I love you, Shikamaru."
"I love you too, Temari..."
