Losing a loved one... it's a tough thing to go through. Shikamaru Nara knows this from first-hand experience. Two years ago, his best friend Choji Akimichi died at the hands of an assassin who presumably was paid off to do it. And now, just recently, the fifth Hokage Tsunade and his former Jonin squad leader Asuma Sarutobi were assassinated while in a meeting. We will now pick up on that day and eaves-drop on their conversation.
“You wanted to see me, Lady Hokage?” Asuma said peering through the slightly opened door. “Yes, come in, please, Asuma. Have a seat.” Lady Tsunade told him lightly. “I don’t exactly know how to say this, so I’ll just come out with it…” At this point a pair of eyes watch and a pair of ears listen in the shadows behind the door leading to the hallway. They watch every move; hear every sound; soak in everything.
“I want you to proceed me as the next Hokage!” Tsunade exclaimed. The figure leaped from the Shadows. “Granny Tsunade, I was supposed to be the next Hokage!” Naruto yelled in mid-air as he leaps into the room from the shadows out from behind the door. Tsunade stepped to the side and Narutos’ head slammed smack into Tsunades’ desk. “Naruto, who invited you here?! I was having a private meeting with Asuma, here! You always just barge right in!” Tsunade yelled in anger. “So what?! I’m just interested in what other responsibilities the Hokage has to uphold!” “Well, that’s not the way to go about doing it!” “Why can’t I be the next Hokage?!” “If I may interrupt…” Asuma said calmly. “Stay out of it!” Tsunade and Naruto verbalized in unison with a still angry look on their faces. Tsunade calmed down and took a deep breath and called down the hallway, “Shizune, escort Naruto out of here, please!” “What?! I’m not leaving! You can’t make me, I want answers!” Shizune appeared behind Naruto and grabs him under his armpits and began to drag him out when Asuma spoke up, “Hold on, can I say something?” “Go right ahead, Asuma.” Tsunade responded. “I think the kid is more qualified than I am. So, he can have the job. It always looked like too much of a struggle, anyway. I watched my father and you, and it just seems like too much paper work.” “I’ll consider it. Naruto, you are a strong and noble shinobi when you want to be. It’s just… I don’t know… I’ll think about it, go home and get some rest.” “Alright, see you tomorrow, Granny Tsunade and Asuma.” With that, he ran off to go home, eat, and train a little. Tsunade plopped back down into her seat; Asuma was still seated. “That kid… he never ceases to amaze me…” The Hokage said with an astonished look on her face. All of a sudden a ceiling tile flew back and five shuriken flew out heading straight for Lady Tsunade. Asuma spots them first, “Look out!” he yelled as he jumped in the way of the attack. A shuriken hit him in the heart, and he fell to the ground in pain. Tsunade leaped to her feet, “Who’s there?” she asked firmly with no sign of fear on her face. Suddenly a shadowy figure appears behind her a grass long sword is shoved through her back. She falls face down on the ground; the figure removes the weapon from her back, she looked up to see the face of her attacker “Wait I know you. You’re…” The figure then rends her head from her shoulders with one swipe of the blade, sheathes it and disappears. The next day the village is informed of the deaths and a funeral is held that weekend for both of them. It was a sad day. The next day the elders of the village approached the greatest mind and one of the greatest leaders in the village: Shikamaru Nara. “What can I do for you?” Shikamaru inquired. “We would like you to solve the mystery of Lady Hokage and Asuma Sarutobis’ deaths. Naruto Uzumaki saw a little bit of the person fade away as he was walking home, you should probably go see him before you start searching.” “Alright, I’ll get right on that.” He began to walk away but was stopped by one of the elders, “Oh, and Shikamaru…” He stopped but didn’t turn around. “Yeah?” “We would also like you to proceed Tsunade and be the next Hokage. “Come again?” he said as he turned his head toward them a little. “But first you have to complete this mission, we’ll talk more when you finish. We want to know who he is, why he murdered them, and who he’s working for.” “I’m on it,” he answered and then dashed off in Narutos’ houses’ direction
