Chapter notes: a theme song? =P
All aboard, destination unknown
Set sail, wherever we may roam
To ride the tide, forever we run
west of the moon & east of the sun
Come hell or high water, we won't falter
just hold together, to keep going farther
On an endless voyage from realm to realm
to take the wheel, live life at the helm
won't ever let life pass us by
That place where the ocean meets the sky
where just about anything seems possible
We'll prove that no sea is uncrossable

Setting sun, when the day is done
for time & tide wait for no one
Living a life of exploration
the journey is the destination
More out there than you can see
as ready as we'll ever be

And the sky is the limit
that's how live we live it
So look to the horizon
life is more than just survivin'
Wherever the winds may take me
know that is where I'll be

All ashore, who's going ashore
while we embark to go explore
Break out of the doldrums, a life of boredom
and live out your dreams, set out toward them
In the company of friends, the journey never ends
to see just how far this horizon extends
Compass spinning, for some waters are haunted
just keep calm & carry on undaunted
And even if you get blown off-course
and shipwrecked, to weather life's storms
Something you learn over the years
fools plan, a wise captain steers

Setting sun, when the day is done
for time & tide wait for no one
Living a life of exploration
the journey is the destination
More out there than you can see
as ready as we'll ever be

And the sky is the limit
that's how live we live it
So look to the horizon
life is more than just survivin'
Wherever the winds may take me
know that is where I'll be

Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning
Red sky at night, sailor's delight
And "X" marks the spot, so give it all you've got
True love or treasure, new friends or adventure
It's all there to find, just leave the past behind
The possibilities that lie where the ocean meets the sky...

Setting sun, when the day is done
for time & tide wait for no one
Living a life of exploration
the journey is the destination
More out there than you can see
as ready as we'll ever be

And the sky is the limit
that's how live we live it
So look to the horizon
life is more than just survivin'
Wherever the winds may take me
know that is where I'll be
Chapter end notes: -1998, rewritten 01/28/07, revised 09/25/16

What can I say? The boundless optimism of youth is a funny thing. Back in the 90's, when I was writing the original version of Tradewinds (the series), I had grand visions of the story getting adapted to film or animation, and even got distracted for a time from actually writing the story to make up a theme song. =P Like a lot of things in my life back then, it amounted to a train of carriages lined up in front of an area reserved for horses I hadn't even rounded up yet. For what it's worth, my optimism was far greater than my skills, and the original version of this sounded like some kid whining about being stuck in a one-horse town (which, to be fair, I kinda was...), juxtaposed with a bunch of pretentious prattling about places I'd never been, and things I'd never done. After spending years rewriting the series from scratch, having gotten all the way to Tradewinds 11, I came back across this, and realized that I had a much better sense of what my story was actually about. Funny, how that works. Now that I'm on the verge of a whole new phase of the series, it seemed like a good time to break this back out. :)
