The world narrowed to Sasuke and the snakelike man before him, smirking down as though he could look through the Sharingan into Sasuke’s mind and alphabetize every thought he found. Terror that took his breath away washed over him in long, paralyzing waves, and the hand that held the kunai shook.
“If you won’t, then your brother was right, you know.”
Unable to bear that little indignity (the first of many, he would find) Sasuke took off after the back of the man people prayed to see leave.
